Embracing a gluten-free lifestyle doesn’t mean sacrificing flavor or indulging in processed ingredients. In fact, it’s an opportunity to explore vibrant and wholesome alternatives. One dish that perfectly embodies this philosophy is our Gluten-Free Healthy Orange Chicken. Packed with clean ingredients and bursting with citrusy goodness, this recipe will have your taste buds dancing with delight. It tastes just like your favorite takeout order.

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:
1. 1 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces

For the Coating:
1. 1 egg
2. 3/4 cup gluten-free flour (almond flour or a gluten-free all-purpose blend works well)
3. 1 tsp salt
4. 1/2 tsp black pepper

For Frying:
1. 1/3 cup of coconut oil or avocado oil

For the Sauce:
1. 1 tbsp orange zest
2. 1/2 tbsp grated ginger
3. 1/2 tbsp grated garlic
4. 1 cup fresh orange juice
5. 3 tbsp gluten free soy sauce / coconut aminos
6. 2 tbsp rice vinegar
7. 1 tbsp sesame oil
8. 1-2 tbsp sriracha
9. 3 tbsp honey
10. 1.5 tbsp gluten free flour

Instructions:

Prepare the Coating:
– In a small shallow bowl, crack the egg and whisk.
– In another shallow bowl, mix the gluten-free flour with salt and pepper.
– Take each marinated chicken piece and coat it evenly with the gluten-free flour mixture.

Fry the Chicken:
– Heat coconut oil or avocado oil in a pan over medium heat.
– Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides; about 3-4 minutes per side.
– Place the fried chicken on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
– Remove any excess oil from the pan.

Make the Orange Glaze:
– In a mason jar, add the sauce ingredients and shake well.

Combine and Serve:
– Add the fried chicken pieces back to the pan over low heat.
– Pour over the sauce and stir continuously until the sauce thickens and it fully coats the chicken.
– Serve over rice with a side of steamed broccoli.
– Garnish with fresh green onions, sesame seeds, and an orange wedge.
