Burger & Fries Whole 30 Style

Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned burger and French fries??? I’ll wait…

What was your answer? Probably, NO ONE. Even kids are obsessed with burgers. I don’t crave a burger often but when I do, the cravings are realll. The cool thing about burgers is 1) You can pretty much find them anywhere (gotta watch the quality of meat though) and 2) They’re super simple to make. You can also make a burger out of pretty much any ground type of meat; beef, lamb, pork, chicken, heck even fish like tuna and salmon. There’s something about food shaped into burger patty that just makes people happy 🙂

Now, let’s talk assembly. Dairy is not Whole 30 compliant so if you’re on Whole 30, unfortunately cheese isn’t an option for you here. Grains aren’t as well so your traditional bun won’t be included here. BUT, you’re going to be okay, there are lots of other delish options to slap on this burger.

  • Compliant Bacon
  • Raw or Caramelized Onions
  • Veggies: tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, pineapple, cabbage, carrots, lettuce, oh the options are endless.
  • Mayo (I use Primal Kitchen – ordered their two flavors Regular & Chipotle Lime Mayo from Amazon
  • Compliant Ketchup & Mustard – there are recipes to make these online, as well as your own mayo. I haven’t tried any of them yet, but if you do, let me know!
  • Lettuce as the bun: In the photo above I used Butter Lettuce. It’s soft and delicious and doesn’t taste like crunchy water. Iceberg also works super well here because of the bun-like shape.

Burgers are amazing, but what is the key ingredient? The patty.

Ingredients:

1 lb of 100% Grass-Fed Beef

1 Cage Free, Organic Egg

1 tbsp Sea Salt

1 tbsp Black Pepper, ground

1 tbsp Oregano

1 tsp Paprika

1 tsp Cumin

1 tsp Garlic Powder

Recipe:

  1. Combine all ingredients into a large bowl.
  2. Form into patties of your preferred size – I do 3 burgers per 1 lb of meat = ~5 oz. patties.
  3. Heat a large skillet and add about 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil.
  4. Place patties about 1 inch apart on the skillet and cook about 4-5 minutes per side.
  5. Assemble burgers how you like; get creative!

Once you’ve made your burger, you can’t just eat that by itself… For the full experience, you HAVE to have French fries! One of my favorite parts of Whole 30 is that you CAN have potatoes. It’s amazing. So your French fries could be made from white or sweet potatoes. I prefer sweet potatoes because I love them and they’re awesome and yeah and yeah and yeah. Here’s how I make mine:

Ingredients:

2 Sweet Potatoes, peeled and chopped into fries (about 1/4 inch thick)

1 tbsp Sea Salt

1 tbsp Black Pepper

1 tsp Paprika

1 tsp Garlic Powder

1 tbsp Organic Coconut Oil, melted

Recipe:

  1. Heat oven to 400F.
  2. Peel and chop potatoes into fry shape.
  3. Place into a large bowl and coat with seasonings an oil – *You don’t want a ton of oil on the potatoes. Only just enough to coat them lightly*
  4. Spread on a sheet pan in one layer, making sure no fries overlap.
  5. Bake at 400F for 15-20 minutes, or until crispy.

ANDDDD THERE YA GO! WHOLE 30 APPROVED BURGER AND FRIES!
